BACONFEST 2015 : The Perfect Saturday

Beer & Bacon- what better way to spend a Saturday? August 29th marked 105.9 The Mountain‘s 3rd annual BaconFest – at Highland Brewing  Live music and Highland craft beer set the scene to taste dozens of local restaurant’s amazingly tasty samples of everything….BACON! From pralines to jerky to sliders to BBQ- it was all things pig. General admission included all your food ‘tastings’ with beer/wine for purchase by Highland, including small batch specialty brews like Cask of Black Mocha Stout with Maple and Cask of Oatmeal Porter with Cayenne Pepper! Just Brew It 2015: I’ll Have a Taste, Please!

Honestly, to many of us living here: Every week is Asheville Beer Week in some form or another. With more and more craft breweries and taprooms opening by the hand fulls, one always has options on where to go for Hoppy libations. But, it’s pretty cool to take advantage of Asheville’s local festivals and events- especially when these events center around tasting BEER. Just Brew It is a one of my favorite beer festivals. Partially because you get to support a really great and local non-profit organization- Just Economics – who not only hosts this beer festival but also benefits from the...

Stay-Cation: Asheville Style!

I think all of us get a bit bogged down during the winter months. January and February can turn into dreary-work-filled-sluggish days with very little reprieve other than a few award shows and some big sporting events on the tube. Financially we are all recovering from the holidays, doing our taxes, and counting down the days ’til spring. Even living where the weather can swing from 13 degrees to 60 a few days later, many folks around here suffer from the winter Blahs. But, Hey! We live in Asheville: the hot tourist spot that makes just about every travel blog/magazine/tv list...

Ok. Now…let’s talk about the Adults!! Halloween, the best time to get your costume going, do a killer face painting job, rock it all…and then…what? Go. Out!!!! And, how pray tell do we Go Out? Well, there are events at bars, local eateries, private parties, heck, there are even costume contests for your cat or dog! Many of my friends started to celebrate Oct. 25th., which makes sense: the last Full weekend of October, affording revelries for 2 weekends. Even I had a party invite for Nov, 1st! Honestly, here in West Asheville it could be mid July and enough...

Halloween: West Asheville Style ~Part 1

This holiday /event usually runs the spectrum of either being a person’s Favorite holiday or their Most hated. I guess it all depends on who you talk to, who you are, do you have kids, are you home, do you like festivities, etc. Part 1: Let’s talk about the Kids… So eons ago, when I first moved over ( to the then “Worst Asheville” ) I had No a Clue about Trick or Treaters or where to go, etc. I had lived in North Asheville for a few years, so I knew…yeah, Kimberly Ave was the place you want to...

Biltmore Estate Antler Village West Asheville Local Music Asheville Things To do 1

Not Just for Tourists: a night @ Antler Village on The Biltmore Estate.

You mean to tell me the Biltmore Estate really IS in Asheville? Oh, yes ma’m/ sir, it sure is. Years ago when traveling for my pottery shows I would, repeatedly, have shoppers pause outside of my booth and wistfully declare “Oh, Asheville….that’s the Biltmore Estate!” (Now, imagine that declaration in your best Chicago or Wisconsin accent, and you have an idea…) On seeing my sign that read ‘Asheville, NC’ it was amazing how quickly so many were plunged into a starry eyed, dream like state remembering some beautiful trip or vacation of theirs to our own…Biltmore Estate. So, yeah. Asheville....

LaZoom me. It’s that purple bus again…

LaZoom Me. Oh, and yes, this Is West Asheville… So, many of you might think “how is LaZoom” West Asheville? Well, I don’t know a ton about the owners that created LaZoom City Comedy Bus Tours, but I do know this: I used to walk by their house in West Asheville when they first relocated from LA after Katrina. For the first few years, the bus was parked in their back yard when off duty. Over the years, from what I saw walking by and from the local buzz around town, it was evident that this growing local business was...
